Responsibility
- Operate backhoe loaders and other heavy machinery to excavate, move, and grade earth, rock, and other materials.
- Perform pre-operation inspections of equipment to ensure safety and functionality, reporting any mechanical issues.
- Follow all site safety protocols and adhere to local, state, and federal regulations for heavy equipment operation.
- Assist in site preparation, including clearing, digging, and leveling land for construction projects.
- Load and unload materials, such as sand, gravel, and debris, using the backhoe’s loader attachment.
- Collaborate with ground crews and supervisors to ensure project specifications and timelines are met.
- Maintain accurate logs of equipment usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
- Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience (minimum 2+ years) as a Backhoe Operator or in a similar heavy equipment role.
- Valid certification or license to operate heavy machinery, including backhoes (preferred).
- Strong understanding of construction site safety practices and OSHA regulations.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and depth perception.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and work orders.
- Physical stamina to work long hours in outdoor conditions, often in varying weather.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to perform minor equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
