Responsibility
- Technical Oversight: Lead the engineering and maintenance of vessel machinery, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with classification society rules.
- Budget Management: Develop, monitor, and control technical budgets, including dry-docking, repairs, and spare parts procurement, while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and flag-state regulations, conducting audits and risk assessments to mitigate operational hazards.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and supervise engineering crews, contractors, and vendors, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Planned Maintenance: Implement and oversee Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) to minimize downtime and extend asset lifespan.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose complex technical issues, coordinate emergency repairs, and ensure rapid resolution to avoid operational disruptions.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with shipowners, charterers, and classification societies to align technical strategies with business objectives.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Champion eco-friendly practices, such as energy-efficient systems and emissions reduction, to align with global maritime sustainability goals.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field. Class 1 or Class 2 Engineer (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency (CoC) is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years in maritime engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior technical or superintendent role (cruise ships, commercial vessels, or offshore assets).
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, propulsion systems, electrical/power generation, hydraulic systems, and marine automation.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Proficiency in SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISO 9001, and other maritime safety and quality standards.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and budgets in a high-pressure environment.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and diagnostic skills to resolve complex technical challenges under tight deadlines.
- Communication: Fluent English (written and verbal) with exceptional reporting and presentation skills for stakeholders at all levels.
- Mobility: Willingness to travel to shipyards, vessels, or regional offices as required (Bali-based with occasional regional assignments).
