Responsibility
- Design, simulate, and optimize silicon photonic components (waveguides, modulators, detectors, and couplers) using industry-standard tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, or Synopsys).
- Develop and test integrated photonic circuits for high-speed optical interconnects and sensing applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate photonic systems with CMOS electronics for scalable manufacturing.
- Conduct experimental validation of prototypes, including optical characterization (e.g., insertion loss, bandwidth, crosstalk).
- Publish research findings in top-tier journals and present at international conferences (e.g., OFC, CLEO, or IEEE Photonics).
- Stay ahead of industry trends in co-packaged optics, quantum photonics, and AI-driven design automation.
- Mentor junior researchers and contribute to IP development through patents and technical reports.
- Work closely with foundries and fabrication partners to ensure design-for-manufacturability (DFM) compliance.
Qualifications
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science with a focus on photonics, optoelectronics, or nanophotonics.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in silicon photonics design, fabrication, or testing (industry or academic).
- Proficiency in FDTD, FEM, or TCAD simulation tools and scripting (Python, MATLAB) for automation.
- Experience with cleanroom fabrication processes (e.g., lithography, etching, deposition) is a plus.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals or patents in photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
- Familiarity with machine learning for photonic design optimization is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with minimal supervision.
