job description

Join A*STAR as a Senior Plasma Process Scientist specializing in dielectrics and conductors for cutting-edge multi-material dry etch applications. This role bridges R&D innovation with small-volume manufacturing, offering a unique opportunity to drive advancements in semiconductor and advanced materials processing.

Based in the vibrant Badung region of Bali, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and optimize plasma etching processes for next-generation technologies. Your expertise will directly impact the scalability and precision of microfabrication techniques, supporting industries from electronics to renewable energy.

We’re seeking a visionary scientist who thrives in a dynamic environment, combining theoretical rigor with hands-on problem-solving. If you’re passionate about pushing the boundaries of plasma physics and material science, this is your chance to make a tangible difference in a globally recognized research ecosystem.

Responsibility

  • Design, develop, and optimize plasma etch processes for dielectrics, conductors, and multi-material stacks.
  • Lead R&D projects from concept to prototype, ensuring alignment with industry and academic standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to transition processes from lab-scale to small-volume manufacturing.
  • Characterize materials and processes using advanced tools (e.g., SEM, AFM, XPS, ellipsometry).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process deviations, improving yield and reproducibility.
  • Document and present findings in technical reports, patents, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Mentor junior scientists and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in plasma physics, semiconductor fabrication, and nanotechnology.

Qualifications

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering with a focus on plasma processing or microfabrication.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in dry etch process development (RIE, ICP, DRIE) for dielectrics (SiO₂, SiN) and conductors (Al, Cu, W).
  • Proven track record in process optimization for semiconductor, MEMS, or advanced packaging applications.
  • Proficiency with plasma etch tools (e.g., Lam, Applied Materials, TEL) and metrology equipment.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in DOE (Design of Experiments) and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with CMOS, FinFET, or 3D NAND processes is a plus.
