Responsibility
- Lead the development and implementation of global tariff classification strategies to ensure compliance with international trade laws and regulations.
- Oversee the accurate classification of products under the Harmonized System (HS) and other relevant tariff nomenclatures.
- Collaborate with customs brokers, legal teams, and external advisors to resolve complex tariff disputes and audits.
- Identify and leverage Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and preferential tariff programs to minimize duties and optimize supply chain costs.
- Conduct risk assessments and internal audits to ensure adherence to customs valuation, origin rules, and documentation requirements.
- Train and mentor cross-functional teams on tariff classification best practices and regulatory updates.
- Represent the company in discussions with customs authorities, trade compliance organizations, and industry forums.
- Drive continuous improvement in tariff processes through automation, data analytics, and process standardization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management, Law, or a related field. Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s in Customs Administration) are a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in tariff classification, customs compliance, or global trade management, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Certified Classification Specialist (CCS) or equivalent professional certification in customs/tariff compliance is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of the Harmonized System (HS), WCO guidelines, and regional trade agreements (e.g., ASEAN, RCEP, CPTPP).
- Proven track record of managing tariff classifications for heavy industry products (e.g., machinery, metals, chemicals).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex trade regulations and apply them to real-world scenarios.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with fluency in English (additional languages are a plus).
- Experience working in a multinational environment with exposure to APAC, EMEA, or Americas markets.
