Responsibility
- Conduct thorough evaluations and authentications of jewelry, including gemstones, diamonds, and precious metals, using industry-standard tools and techniques.
- Perform accurate appraisals based on current market values, condition, and rarity of items.
- Collaborate with retail teams to provide expert guidance on product quality, pricing, and customer inquiries.
- Maintain meticulous records of all appraisals, authentications, and inventory assessments for compliance and auditing purposes.
- Stay updated on global jewelry market trends, certification standards (e.g., GIA, AGS), and emerging technologies in gemology.
- Train and mentor junior staff on best practices in jewelry evaluation and quality control.
- Assist in resolving disputes or discrepancies related to jewelry valuation or authenticity.
- Support branch operations by conducting inventory checks and ensuring all items meet brand and legal standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Gemology, Jewelry Design, or a related field. GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or equivalent certification is a must.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in jewelry appraisal, authentication, or quality control, preferably in a luxury retail or auction house setting.
- In-depth knowledge of precious metals (gold, platinum, silver) and gemstones (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, etc.).
- Proficiency in using gemological equipment (e.g., microscopes, refractometers, spectroscopes) and appraisal software.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess value, detect treatments, and identify synthetic or imitation materials.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards.
- Fluency in English; additional languages (e.g., Indonesian, Mandarin) are a plus.
