job description

Join ST Engineering, a global leader in defence, security, and critical infrastructure solutions, as a Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer and play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge waveform-centric systems that enhance national security capabilities. This is a unique opportunity to work on high-impact projects while enjoying the flexibility of remote work from Bali, Indonesia—one of the world’s most vibrant and inspiring locations.

In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to design, implement, and optimize FPGA-based firmware for advanced defence and security applications. Your expertise in FPGA development, digital signal processing (DSP), and real-time systems will directly contribute to the delivery of mission-critical solutions that safeguard communities and nations.

ST Engineering values innovation, technical excellence, and a commitment to continuous learning. As part of our team, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art tools, professional development opportunities, and a supportive work environment that fosters creativity and collaboration. Whether you’re based in Canggu, Ubud, Denpasar, or another part of Bali, you’ll enjoy a work-life balance that allows you to thrive both professionally and personally.

If you’re a passionate FPGA engineer with a strong background in defence, aerospace, or communications systems, we’d love to hear from you. Help us shape the future of secure communications and defence technology while working from one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Responsibility

  • Design, develop, and optimize FPGA-based firmware for waveform-centric systems, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security in defence and security applications.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to define system requirements, architecture, and integration strategies for FPGA-based solutions.
  • Implement and verify digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms, modulation/demodulation schemes, and real-time processing pipelines in FPGA hardware.
  • Conduct timing closure, power optimization, and resource utilization analysis to meet stringent performance and efficiency targets.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, including simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and field validation, to ensure system robustness and compliance with industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex FPGA firmware issues, working closely with cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Document design specifications, test procedures, and validation results to support knowledge sharing and future development efforts.
  • Stay abreast of emerging FPGA technologies, tools, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in firmware development processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with a strong focus on FPGA development.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in FPGA firmware design and development, preferably in defence, aerospace, or communications systems.
  • Proficiency in HDL languages such as VHDL or Verilog, with hands-on experience in FPGA design tools (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus).
  • Strong background in digital signal processing (DSP), modulation techniques, and real-time embedded systems.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, DDR, SerDes) and FPGA-based prototyping platforms.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Tcl) for automation and verification tasks.
  • Knowledge of security protocols, encryption standards, and compliance requirements in defence and aerospace applications is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, remote environment.
