job description
Join Fugro, a global leader in geo-intelligence and asset integrity solutions, as a Senior Computer Vision Engineer specializing in AI-driven soil imaging and laboratory analysis. In this cutting-edge role, you will pioneer advanced image processing, machine learning, and computer vision models to extract actionable insights from soil photographs, XCT (X-ray Computed Tomography) scans, and other high-resolution laboratory imaging datasets.
Based in the vibrant tech hubs of Bali (Canggu, Ubud, Denpasar, or surrounding areas), you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams of geoscientists, data engineers, and AI researchers to develop scalable, real-time solutions that enhance Fugro’s geotechnical and environmental assessments. Your work will directly contribute to sustainable infrastructure, offshore energy, and climate resilience projects worldwide.
This is a unique opportunity to merge deep learning, computational geoscience, and industry 4.0 technologies while enjoying Bali’s dynamic work-life balance. If you’re passionate about AI for earth sciences and thrive in an innovative, global environment, we want to hear from you.
Responsibility
- Design, develop, and deploy deep learning-based computer vision models for soil texture, composition, and structural analysis using Python, OpenCV, TensorFlow/PyTorch.
- Process and enhance XCT scans, hyperspectral images, and microscopic soil photographs to improve classification accuracy and feature extraction.
- Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to translate image-derived insights into actionable reports for clients in oil & gas, renewable energy, and civil infrastructure.
- Optimize models for edge deployment on embedded systems or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) to enable real-time field analysis.
- Research and implement state-of-the-art techniques (e.g., Vision Transformers, GANs, or 3D reconstruction) to solve complex geoscientific challenges.
- Automate quality control pipelines for laboratory imaging data, ensuring consistency and scalability across global projects.
- Document methodologies, validate model performance, and present findings to stakeholders in technical and non-technical terms.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends in AI, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis to drive continuous innovation.
Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Geoinformatics, or a related field with a focus on computer vision or image processing.
- 5+ years of experience in developing CV/ML models for scientific, industrial, or geospatial applications.
- Proficiency in Python, OpenCV, scikit-image, and deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras).
- Experience with 3D imaging (XCT, LiDAR), hyperspectral analysis, or medical/geological image segmentation is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS SageMaker, Google Vertex AI) and MLOps tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong background in mathematics (linear algebra, statistics) and signal processing.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in agile, multidisciplinary teams.
- Prior experience in geotechnical, environmental, or oil & gas sectors is highly desirable.
