job description

Join Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Asia’s leading acute tertiary hospital and a global healthcare innovator, as we expand our Psychogeriatric Care Program to Bali. This is a rare opportunity for a Senior Clinical Counsellor to work in a tropical paradise while delivering world-class mental health support to elderly patients in a culturally rich environment.

As part of SGH’s international team, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to develop and implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions for older adults facing cognitive, emotional, and psychological challenges. Your work will directly contribute to improving the quality of life for seniors in Bali’s expat and local communities, with access to SGH’s cutting-edge resources and training.

Bali offers an unparalleled work-life balance—imagine conducting therapy sessions in serene, open-air clinics, with weekends spent exploring lush rice terraces, pristine beaches, and vibrant cultural hubs. This role combines professional growth with an idyllic lifestyle, including competitive expat benefits, relocation support, and opportunities for cross-cultural learning.

Responsibility

  • Conduct comprehensive psychogeriatric assessments to identify cognitive, emotional, and behavioral needs in elderly patients.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using modalities such as CBT, reminiscence therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions.
  • Provide one-on-one and group counseling sessions for seniors and their families, addressing issues like dementia, depression, and adjustment disorders.
  • Collaborate with geriatricians, nurses, and social workers to ensure holistic patient care within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Design and facilitate psychoeducational workshops for caregivers and community members on aging-related mental health topics.
  • Maintain detailed clinical documentation in compliance with SGH standards and local regulations.
  • Advocate for mental health awareness in Bali’s expat and local senior communities through outreach programs.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends in geriatric psychology and integrate best practices into clinical work.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work (specialization in gerontology or psychogeriatrics preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in geriatric mental health, with a proven track record in counseling elderly populations.
  • Licensed or registered as a Clinical Counsellor, Psychologist, or equivalent (recognition by Indonesian or Singaporean boards is a plus).
  • Fluency in English (mandatory); proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia or Mandarin is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of age-related mental health conditions (e.g., dementia, Alzheimer’s, late-life depression).
  • Experience working in multicultural settings and adapting therapeutic approaches to diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with elderly clients and their families.
  • Commitment to ethical practice and continuous professional development.
