Responsibility
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to patient records based on clinical documentation.
- Review and audit medical charts to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
- Submit clean claims to insurance companies and follow up on denials or rejections.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding updates, payer policies, and industry best practices.
- Utilize encoding software and EHR systems to streamline coding workflows.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA or equivalent standards.
- Generate reports on coding productivity, accuracy, and revenue cycle performance.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience in a physician practice, hospital, or revenue cycle environment.
- Certification from a recognized body (e.g., AAPC, AHIMA, or equivalent).
- Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Experience with medical billing software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or other EHR systems).
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- Familiarity with compliance standards (HIPAA, CMS, etc.).
