Responsibility
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for inpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines (e.g., AHA, CMS, AAPC).
- Review and analyze medical records to identify diagnoses, procedures, and treatments for proper code assignment.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, auditors, and billing teams to resolve coding discrepancies and improve documentation.
- Stay updated on coding regulations, payer policies, and industry best practices to maintain compliance.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure coding accuracy and minimize claim denials or delays.
- Utilize EHR/EMR systems and coding software (e.g., Epic, 3M Encoder) to streamline workflows.
- Provide training and guidance to junior coders or clinical staff on coding standards and documentation requirements.
- Meet productivity and quality benchmarks while adhering to deadlines in a fast-paced remote environment.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or RHIA/RHIT credential required.
- Minimum 3+ years of inpatient medical coding experience (acute care, surgery, or specialty areas preferred).
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology.
- Experience with EHR/EMR platforms (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech) and coding software.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to interpret complex clinical documentation.
- Familiarity with MS-DRG, APR-DRG, and reimbursement methodologies.
- Self-motivated with exceptional time management skills for remote work.
