Responsibility
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection with precision and care, adhering to standard operating procedures.
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage of blood specimens to maintain integrity for laboratory testing.
- Verify patient identity and confirm test requisitions to prevent errors in sample collection.
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and organized phlebotomy workstation in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Provide exceptional patient care by explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring a comfortable experience.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to prioritize and process specimens efficiently.
- Document all procedures accurately in electronic health records (EHR) or laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Participate in continuous training and quality improvement initiatives to enhance technical skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field; Registered Medical Technologist (RMT) license is required.
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or in a clinical laboratory setting (minimum 1-2 years preferred).
- Certification in Phlebotomy (e.g., from a recognized institution) is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of aseptic techniques, infection control, and medical terminology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients of all ages.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and maintain composure in fast-paced environments.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and basic computer proficiency.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards and patient confidentiality (HIPAA or equivalent).
