Responsibility
- Conduct comprehensive patent searches and analyze prior art to assess patentability of inventions.
- Draft, review, and refine patent applications, claims, and specifications in compliance with local and international IP laws.
- Collaborate with inventors, R&D teams, and legal counsel to gather technical details and align patent strategies with business goals.
- Prepare and file patent applications with IP offices in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and other jurisdictions as required.
- Monitor and respond to office actions, rejections, and oppositions with well-researched arguments and amendments.
- Provide IP strategy consultations to clients, advising on patent portfolios, freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses, and infringement risks.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and patent law changes to ensure cutting-edge and legally sound filings.
- Represent clients in patent prosecution proceedings and coordinate with external patent attorneys when necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Science, or related fields).
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in patent drafting, prosecution, or IP law, preferably in a consulting or corporate setting.
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to explain complex inventions clearly and concisely.
- Familiarity with patent databases (e.g., USPTO, EPO, WIPO, MyIPO) and search tools.
- Knowledge of international patent systems (PCT, Paris Convention) and regional IP laws.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate patent office objections and legal nuances.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal); additional languages (e.g., Malay, Indonesian) are a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-border environment.
