Responsibility
- Supervise and mentor a team of medical coders, ensuring adherence to ICD-10-CM, CPT, and DRG coding guidelines.
- Review and validate inpatient medical records for accurate code assignment, compliance, and reimbursement optimization.
- Monitor coding productivity, accuracy, and quality metrics, implementing improvements as needed.
- Collaborate with clinical and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding discrepancies and denials.
- Stay updated on CMS, AHA, and other regulatory changes impacting DRG coding and billing.
- Develop and deliver training programs to enhance team performance and coding proficiency.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.
- Analyze DRG assignments to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for revenue integrity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management (HIM), Nursing, or related field; RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in inpatient medical coding, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Expertise in DRG coding, MS-DRG, and APR-DRG methodologies.
- Proficiency in EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and coding software (e.g., 3M, Optum).
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with revenue cycle management (RCM) and healthcare compliance standards.
