Responsibility
- Conduct internal audits of company operations, financial records, and ISM (International Safety Management) systems to ensure compliance with maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, ISM Code, MARPOL).
- Develop, review, and update audit plans, checklists, and reports with actionable recommendations for process improvements.
- Deliver ISM Code training programs for crew members, shore-based staff, and management, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety management systems (SMS) and propose corrective actions where deficiencies are identified.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks and enhance operational efficiency in vessel management.
- Prepare and present audit findings and training outcomes to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Stay updated on maritime laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure organizational compliance.
- Assist in incident investigations and root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Maritime Studies, or a related field. A master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CIA, CPA, Lead Auditor) is a plus.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in internal auditing, preferably within the maritime or shipping industry.
- In-depth knowledge of ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other IMO regulations.
- Proven experience in conducting training sessions and developing educational materials for maritime professionals.
- Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills in English.
- Familiarity with audit software tools (e.g., IDEA, ACL) and maritime management systems.
- Ability to travel occasionally for onboard audits or training assignments.
- High ethical standards, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
