Responsibility
- Oversee and manage the complete import lifecycle, from shipment arrival to final delivery, ensuring adherence to local and international customs regulations.
- Prepare and verify customs documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Classify imported goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) codes and determine applicable duties, taxes, and trade preferences.
- Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies to resolve discrepancies and expedite clearance processes.
- Monitor and analyze landed costs, including duties, taxes, and logistics fees, to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing customs laws, trade agreements, and tariff structures to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline import processes and reduce operational risks.
- Collaborate with procurement, finance, and logistics teams to align import activities with business objectives and inventory needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in customs compliance, import operations, or a similar role within the logistics or retail industry.
- In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, HS code classification, and Incoterms (International Commercial Terms).
- Proven experience with customs clearance software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex trade laws and apply them practically.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, customs authorities, and external partners.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in documentation and financial calculations.
- Certification in customs brokerage or related fields (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist) is a plus.
