Responsibility
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical, electrical, and propulsion systems aboard the chemical tanker vessel.
- Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, etc.) and company policies.
- Lead and supervise the engineering team, including delegation of tasks, performance evaluations, and training.
- Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to prevent mechanical failures and ensure vessel safety.
- Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies, coordinating procurement as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation for all engineering activities, including maintenance records and incident reports.
- Collaborate with the Captain and other department heads to optimize vessel performance and operational efficiency.
- Implement and monitor energy-saving initiatives to reduce fuel consumption and environmental impact.
Qualifications
- Valid Chief Engineer (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by a recognized maritime authority.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Chief Engineer or Senior Engineer on chemical/oil tankers or similar vessels.
- In-depth knowledge of marine engineering systems, including diesel engines, boilers, pumps, and automation systems.
- Strong understanding of international maritime safety and environmental standards (e.g., ISPS, ISM, MARPOL Annex I/II).
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional languages are a plus.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in confined spaces and challenging maritime conditions.
