Responsibility
- Assist the Chief Mate and Master in the safe navigation and operation of the oil tanker vessel.
- Stand bridge watches, monitor radar, and maintain accurate logs of the vessel’s position and movements.
- Oversee cargo loading, unloading, and transfer operations, ensuring compliance with international safety and environmental regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL).
- Conduct regular inspections of the vessel’s deck, cargo holds, and safety equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Participate in emergency drills, including fire-fighting, abandon ship, and oil spill response procedures.
- Assist in the maintenance of navigation equipment, charts, and publications to ensure they are up-to-date.
- Supervise and train deck crew members in their duties, including mooring, anchoring, and maintenance tasks.
- Ensure compliance with the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and ISM Code requirements.
Qualifications
- Valid STCW Certificate (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers).
- Certificate of Competency (CoC) as 3rd Mate or equivalent, issued by a recognized maritime authority.
- Minimum 12 months of sailing experience on oil/chemical tankers or similar vessels (preferred).
- Familiarity with GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) and modern navigation systems (ECDIS, radar, AIS).
- Strong knowledge of ISPS Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other international maritime regulations.
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal) for effective team coordination.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding conditions, including long voyages and varying climates.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to work under pressure in high-stakes environments.
