Responsibility
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages with adherence to safety and hygiene protocols.
- Verify patient identity and maintain accurate, confidential records of all specimens collected.
- Label, store, and transport blood samples to designated laboratories in compliance with standard operating procedures.
- Educate patients on pre- and post-procedure care to ensure comfort and minimize complications.
- Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment, including centrifuges and blood collection devices, ensuring sterility and functionality.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to prioritize urgent collections and adapt to varying patient needs.
- Uphold strict infection control standards, including proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Provide exceptional customer service, addressing patient concerns with empathy and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Phlebotomist (e.g., CPT, RPT, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Proven experience in phlebotomy, preferably in high-volume or mobile settings.
- Strong knowledge of anatomical sites for venipuncture and capillary collection.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail to ensure accurate sample collection.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, including flexibility for 2-shift rotations.
- Outstanding communication skills to interact with patients, nurses, and laboratory staff.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory information systems (LIS) is a plus.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on phlebotomy best practices.
