Responsibility
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to diagnoses, procedures, and treatments based on patient medical records.
- Review and abstract clinical documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy for coding purposes.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, and other regulatory guidelines to maintain data integrity and patient confidentiality.
- Perform regular audits of coded data to identify trends, errors, and opportunities for improvement.
- Stay updated on coding guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory changes to ensure accurate and compliant coding practices.
- Generate reports on coding productivity, accuracy, and compliance for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior coders or healthcare staff on coding best practices.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with healthcare providers and team members.
