Responsibility
- Manage, monitor, and optimize the performance of database systems to ensure high availability, reliability, and scalability.
- Develop, implement, and maintain database security policies, including user access controls, encryption, and compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with IT teams to design and deploy database solutions that support business operations and digital transformation initiatives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, data corruption, and system failures.
- Automate routine database tasks using scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and database management tools to improve efficiency.
- Ensure database backups, disaster recovery plans, and data archiving strategies are in place and tested regularly.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators and support staff.
- Stay updated with emerging database technologies and trends, and recommend improvements to enhance system performance and security.
Qualifications
- Bachelorās degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in database administration, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proficiency in SQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server, with hands-on experience in database tuning and optimization.
- Strong knowledge of database security, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Experience with cloud database platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation and task scheduling.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, or AWS Certified Database ā Specialty are a plus.
