job description

Join a leading global electronics manufacturer as a Wave Soldering Engineer (SMT) and play a pivotal role in ensuring world-class PCB assembly quality, process optimization, and new product introduction (NPI) success. Based in the vibrant hub of Denpasar, Bali, this position offers a unique opportunity to drive operational excellence in a high-tech manufacturing environment while enjoying the island’s dynamic work-life balance.

As a key technical expert, you will oversee wave soldering processes, troubleshoot defects, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance yield, efficiency, and reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support NPI projects, ensuring seamless transitions from prototyping to mass production. Your expertise will directly impact product quality, cost savings, and customer satisfaction in a fast-paced, innovation-driven industry.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented engineer with a passion for precision, problem-solving, and process innovation in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and electronics manufacturing.

Responsibility

  • Lead the optimization and maintenance of wave soldering processes to ensure consistent PCB quality and defect-free production.
  • Develop and implement process control plans, including parameter adjustments, flux application, and thermal profiling.
  • Collaborate with NPI teams to evaluate and integrate new designs, materials, and technologies into existing manufacturing workflows.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for soldering defects (e.g., bridging, voids, insufficient wetting) and drive corrective actions.
  • Monitor and improve First Pass Yield (FPY) and Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO) metrics through data-driven process improvements.
  • Train and mentor production staff on SMT best practices, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Work closely with supply chain and procurement to evaluate and qualify new solder alloys, fluxes, and consumables.
  • Support IPC-A-610 and other industry compliance standards, ensuring adherence to customer and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in wave soldering, SMT, or PCB assembly within electronics manufacturing.
  • Hands-on expertise with wave soldering machines (e.g., Ersa, Vitronics, or similar) and process optimization tools.
  • Strong knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-J-STD-001) and Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Proficient in statistical process control (SPC), DOE (Design of Experiments), and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Experience with NPI (New Product Introduction) and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) reviews.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Fluency in English; additional language skills (e.g., Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia) are advantageous.
