Responsibility
- Perform comprehensive optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) and electrical testing on undersea fiber optic cables during loading, deployment, and repair operations.
- Operate and maintain specialized testing equipment, including optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, and fault locators, ensuring accuracy and calibration.
- Collaborate with marine and subsea teams to troubleshoot and resolve transmission issues, providing real-time technical support.
- Document test results, anomalies, and recommendations in detailed technical reports for stakeholders and clients.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance protocols to enhance system reliability and longevity.
- Assist in the planning and execution of cable route surveys and risk assessments for new installations.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians on best practices in fiber optic testing and transmission engineering.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies in subsea telecommunications and recommend upgrades or innovations to improve performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelorâs degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field; Masterâs degree is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fiber optic transmission engineering, with a focus on undersea or long-haul systems.
- Hands-on expertise with OTDR, optical loss test sets (OLTS), and fiber characterization tools.
- Strong understanding of DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and high-speed data transmission protocols.
- Experience working in marine or offshore environments is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in technical documentation and reporting, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications in fiber optic testing (e.g., FOA, CFOT) are advantageous.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including on-call duties for emergency repairs.
