Responsibility
- Design, deploy, and maintain high-performance computing (HPC) clusters and storage systems to support scientific research.
- Optimize Linux-based systems for performance, security, and scalability in a research environment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to computational infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Collaborate with researchers to understand computational needs and provide tailored solutions for data-intensive workflows.
- Implement and manage parallel file systems, distributed storage, and backup solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Automate system administration tasks using scripting (e.g., Python, Bash) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and security, proactively addressing potential bottlenecks or vulnerabilities.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies in HPC, cloud computing, and storage to recommend and integrate innovative solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field with a focus on computational systems.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Linux system administration, with a strong background in HPC or scientific computing environments.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, Perl) and automation tools for system management.
- Hands-on experience with HPC clusters, distributed file systems (e.g., Lustre, GPFS), and job schedulers (e.g., Slurm, PBS).
- Strong knowledge of networking, storage technologies, and virtualization in a research or enterprise setting.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with non-technical stakeholders and translate complex technical concepts.
