job description
Join Power Automation Pte Ltd as a Senior Protection Systems Engineer & Site Manager and lead the end-to-end delivery of high-voltage (66/230/400kV) protection and control system projects across Bali’s most critical energy infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to drive technical excellence in a dynamic, fast-growing market while working with cutting-edge substation automation and grid protection technologies.
In this role, you will oversee project execution from design and engineering to commissioning, ensuring compliance with international standards (IEC 61850, IEEE, etc.) and client specifications. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, SCADA specialists, and utility stakeholders, to deliver reliable, future-proof protection systems that enhance grid stability and resilience.
Based in Bali’s vibrant tech and energy hubs (Canggu, Ubud, Denpasar, or surrounding areas), you’ll enjoy a competitive compensation package, professional growth opportunities, and the chance to shape the future of Indonesia’s power infrastructure.
Responsibility
- Project Leadership: Manage the full lifecycle of 66/230/400kV protection and control system projects, from scope definition to handover, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
- Technical Design: Develop and review protection schemes, relay coordination studies, and substation automation (SAS) architectures using tools like ETAP, PSCAD, or DigSILENT.
- Site Supervision: Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of protection relays (e.g., SEL, ABB, Siemens), CTs, VTs, and communication networks on-site.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all systems adhere to IEC 61850, IEEE C37.90, and local utility regulations (PLN standards for Indonesia).
- Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to resolve technical challenges and align project milestones.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate project risks, including safety hazards, delays, and budget overruns.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical reports, as-built drawings, and compliance documentation for audits and client approvals.
- Team Mentorship: Train and guide junior engineers and technicians on protection system principles and best practices.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., P.E., CEng) are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 8+ years in protection systems engineering, with at least 3 years in a site management or lead role for HV substations (66kV and above).
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with protection relays (SEL, ABB, GE, Siemens), SCADA systems, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus).
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in ETAP, PSCAD, DigSILENT PowerFactory, or equivalent tools for system modeling and relay coordination.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of IEC, IEEE, and PLN (Indonesia) standards for substation design and protection.
- Project Management: Strong track record of managing multi-million-dollar projects with PMP or PRINCE2 certification preferred.
- Language Skills: Fluent in English (written and spoken); Indonesian (Bahasa) is advantageous.
- Soft Skills: Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication abilities to manage teams and client relationships effectively.
