Responsibility
- Administer, monitor, and optimize DB2 databases on z/OS to ensure high availability, performance, and security for mission-critical applications.
- Design, implement, and maintain database schemas, tablespaces, indexes, and storage groups to support enterprise-scale operations.
- Perform database tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning to enhance system efficiency and reduce latency.
- Develop and enforce database security policies, including user access controls, encryption, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents, including performance bottlenecks, locking issues, and data corruption.
- Collaborate with application developers, system architects, and infrastructure teams to align database strategies with business objectives.
- Automate routine database tasks using scripts (e.g., REXX, JCL) and tools to improve operational efficiency.
- Document database configurations, procedures, and incident resolutions to ensure knowledge sharing and compliance.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience as a DB2 Database Administrator on z/OS, with a focus on enterprise-scale environments.
- Proficient in DB2 utilities (e.g., REORG, RUNSTATS, LOAD, UNLOAD) and performance tuning techniques for z/OS.
- Strong knowledge of mainframe technologies, including JCL, TSO/ISPF, REXX, and IBM Z hardware.
- Experience with database security, backup/recovery strategies, and disaster recovery planning for DB2 on z/OS.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., IBM OMEGAMON, BMC MainView) and performance analysis methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex database issues in high-pressure environments.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Database Administrator - DB2 for z/OS) are a plus.
