Responsibility
- Accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to patient records based on medical documentation.
- Review and verify patient charts for completeness and accuracy of diagnostic and procedural information.
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, including CMS, AMA, and payer-specific regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation for precise coding.
- Submit clean claims to insurance companies and follow up on denials or rejections.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and other data protection standards.
- Utilize encoding software and electronic health records (EHR) systems efficiently.
- Stay updated on coding updates, industry changes, and best practices through continuous education.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent certification (e.g., CCS, COC).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a remote or outsourcing setting.
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
