Responsibility
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using standardized techniques to ensure patient safety and sample integrity.
- Verify patient identity and maintain accurate records of all specimens collected, adhering to laboratory protocols.
- Label, store, and transport blood samples in compliance with infection control and biohazard safety standards.
- Provide clear instructions to patients to minimize anxiety and ensure a smooth phlebotomy process.
- Monitor and maintain phlebotomy equipment, ensuring all tools are sterile, functional, and ready for use.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to prioritize urgent tests and ensure timely processing of samples.
- Educate patients on pre- and post-procedure care, including dietary restrictions or follow-up actions.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and ethical standards in handling patient information and test results.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Nursing, or a related healthcare field; RMT license is required.
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Technologist in a clinical or hospital setting (minimum 1-2 years preferred).
- Certification in Phlebotomy (e.g., from a recognized institution) is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques, infection control, and laboratory safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients of all ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time efficiently, and maintain accuracy in high-volume environments.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and basic computer proficiency.
- Commitment to continuing education and staying updated with industry best practices.
