As an Inpatient Medical Coder, you will leverage your expertise in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems to review medical records, assign appropriate codes, and provide expert guidance to billing teams. Responsibility
- Review and analyze inpatient medical records to extract relevant clinical information for accurate coding.
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on documentation and coding guidelines.
- Collaborate with billing staff to resolve coding discrepancies, denials, and ensure compliance with payer requirements.
- Provide expert advice and training to billing teams on coding best practices and regulatory updates.
- Conduct audits to ensure coding accuracy and adherence to AHIMA and AAPC standards.
- Stay updated with changes in coding regulations, payer policies, and industry trends.
- Prepare and submit coding reports to management for performance tracking and process improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient health information in compliance with HIPAA and other data protection laws.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in inpatient medical coding, preferably in a hospital or large healthcare facility.
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and encoder software (e.g., 3M, Optum).
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology.
- Experience with DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) and MS-DRG coding for inpatient services.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting with a reliable internet connection.
- Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) is a plus.
