The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) is seeking a strategic Director of Venture Creation & Growth to join our elite team in Singapore. In this pivotal role, you will act as a bridge between world-class scientific research and the global marketplace, transforming breakthrough technologies into high-growth, scalable ventures.
As part of Singapore’s lead public R&D agency, you will orchestrate the venture building lifecycle—from identifying high-potential intellectual property to securing capital and building foundational management teams. You will collaborate with researchers, industry partners, and investors to navigate the complexities of deep-tech commercialization, ultimately contributing to the economic growth of Singapore’s innovation ecosystem.
Responsibility
- Lead the identification and evaluation of high-potential R&D assets for spin-off and commercialization.
- Design and execute go-to-market strategies for deep-tech ventures, ensuring alignment with global market demands.
- Build and nurture a robust network of venture capitalists, angel investors, and strategic corporate partners.
- Manage the entire venture creation pipeline, providing mentorship and operational guidance to early-stage startups.
- Drive growth initiatives, including fundraising support, business model validation, and expansion planning for spin-offs.
- Collaborate with internal scientific teams to translate complex technical concepts into compelling commercial value propositions.
- Monitor and analyze market trends to provide strategic advice on the viability and scalability of emerging technologies.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Science, Engineering, or a Business-related discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum 12+ years of professional experience in venture building, venture capital, technology commercialization, or strategic business development.
- Proven track record of successfully bringing deep-tech innovations to market or scaling early-stage technology startups.
- Strong understanding of the Singapore and global investment landscape, including venture capital structures and IP licensing.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience in financial modeling, valuation, and investment term sheet negotiations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical value to non-technical stakeholders.
