job description
Are you a commercially minded legal professional with expertise in Financial Action Task Force (FAT) compliance and contract law? A prestigious retail-sector client in Bali is seeking a dynamic Associate (Commercial Legal & FAT) to join their team on a retainer basis.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work on high-impact commercial agreements while ensuring adherence to anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) regulations. Based in Bali’s most vibrant business hubs—Canggu, Ubud, Denpasar, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Kuta, or Badung—you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate legal risks and drive compliant business growth.
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a passion for retail law, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance, this is your chance to make a tangible impact in a growing market.
Responsibility
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts (e.g., vendor agreements, distribution deals, licensing contracts) for retail operations.
- Ensure all business transactions comply with FAT, AML, and CTF regulations, including due diligence and reporting.
- Provide legal advisory on corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory changes affecting the retail sector.
- Collaborate with finance and compliance teams to implement internal policies aligned with Indonesian and international laws.
- Conduct legal research on emerging retail industry trends, case law, and regulatory updates.
- Represent the company in dispute resolution and litigation matters, if required.
- Develop and deliver training programs for staff on compliance and contractual obligations.
- Monitor and advise on intellectual property (IP) protection for retail brands and products.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB or equivalent); a Master’s in Commercial Law or Compliance is a plus.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial law, with a focus on retail, corporate contracts, or FAT compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of Indonesian commercial law, AML/CTF frameworks, and FAT recommendations.
- Proven track record in drafting and negotiating complex contracts in a corporate or law firm setting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills in English (fluency required).
- Familiarity with retail industry regulations (e.g., consumer protection, e-commerce, import/export laws).
- Certification in compliance (e.g., CAMS, ICA) is highly advantageous.
- Ability to work independently in a retainer-based, client-facing role with minimal supervision.
