Responsibility
- Investigate and resolve production issues in COBOL-based mainframe applications to ensure minimal disruption.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system incidents, including batch job failures, performance bottlenecks, and data integrity issues.
- Collaborate with development, QA, and infrastructure teams to implement fixes and enhancements.
- Monitor mainframe system health, capacity, and performance, proactively addressing potential risks.
- Document root cause analyses (RCAs) and implement preventive measures to avoid recurring issues.
- Assist in the migration, optimization, and modernization of legacy COBOL applications where applicable.
- Provide on-call support for critical incidents outside of regular business hours.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mainframe technologies, tools, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in COBOL programming and mainframe support (IBM z/OS, CICS, DB2, JCL).
- Proven expertise in debugging and resolving mainframe application and system incidents.
- Strong understanding of mainframe utilities (e.g., File-AID, SyncSort, XPEDITER).
- Experience with job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, CA Workload Automation).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, with strong communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a contract-based role with potential for extension.
