Responsibility
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using proper techniques to ensure patient comfort and sample integrity.
- Verify patient identity and maintain accurate records of all specimens collected, including labeling and documentation.
- Adhere to strict infection control and safety protocols, including the proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Prepare and process blood samples for laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of phlebotomy supplies and equipment, and report any shortages or malfunctions.
- Provide clear and empathetic communication to patients, addressing any concerns or questions about the blood collection process.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate delivery of specimens to the laboratory.
- Stay updated on the latest phlebotomy techniques, industry standards, and best practices through continuous education.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Phlebotomist from an accredited institution (e.g., CPT, RPT, or equivalent).
- Proven experience in phlebotomy, with a minimum of 1-2 years in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques, anatomy, and physiology related to blood collection.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and the ability to perform procedures with precision and care.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, laboratory information systems (LIS), and electronic health records (EHR).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-volume environment.
- Flexibility to work weekends, early mornings, or extended hours as needed.
