Responsibility
- Accurately assign IP DRG codes for inpatient services using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and MS-DRG classification systems.
- Review and analyze medical records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with coding guidelines.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, auditors, and billing teams to resolve coding discrepancies and optimize revenue cycles.
- Stay updated with the latest coding regulations, payer policies, and industry best practices to maintain compliance.
- Conduct regular audits to identify coding errors, trends, and areas for improvement.
- Provide training and guidance to junior coders or clinical staff on proper documentation and coding practices.
- Utilize encoding software (e.g., 3M, Epic, Cerner) to streamline coding processes and enhance efficiency.
- Prepare and submit reports on coding productivity, accuracy, and compliance metrics.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or RHIA/RHIT certification required.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in inpatient medical coding (IP DRG), with a strong focus on MS-DRG and ICD-10-CM.
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Proficient in using coding software (e.g., 3M, Epic, Cerner) and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to interpret complex medical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve coding discrepancies.
