Responsibility
- Process and verify authorization requests for medical services in compliance with insurance policies and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and internal teams to obtain necessary approvals.
- Maintain accurate records of authorization statuses, denials, and appeals in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Assist Case Managers and UR RNs in gathering and submitting required documentation for prior authorizations.
- Monitor and follow up on pending authorization requests to ensure timely resolution.
- Communicate authorization outcomes to patients, providers, and internal stakeholders clearly and professionally.
- Identify and escalate discrepancies or issues in authorization processes to supervisors.
- Stay updated on changes in insurance policies, healthcare regulations, and company procedures related to authorizations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare authorization, utilization review, or a similar role.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance protocols, and EHR systems.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and healthcare management software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in healthcare administration or medical coding (e.g., CPC, CPB) is a plus.
