Responsibility
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and DRG codes for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Review and analyze medical records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with coding guidelines.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and improve coding precision.
- Ensure timely submission of coded data to support billing, reimbursement, and reporting processes.
- Stay updated with the latest coding standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Identify and resolve coding discrepancies or denials to optimize revenue cycle performance.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and other data protection regulations.
- Participate in audits and quality assurance initiatives to enhance coding accuracy.
Qualifications
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent certification (e.g., RHIA, RHIT, CPC).
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in hospital DRG coding, preferably in an acute care setting.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and MS-DRG coding systems.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance and reimbursement methodologies.
