Responsibility
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Review and analyze medical records to identify diagnoses, procedures, and other relevant clinical data for proper code assignment.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, auditors, and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding discrepancies and improve documentation accuracy.
- Maintain a high productivity standard (200K SOB) while upholding quality and accuracy in coding.
- Stay updated on coding updates, CMS guidelines, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and optimize reimbursement.
- Participate in coding audits and peer reviews to enhance team performance and consistency.
- Utilize encoding software and EHR systems efficiently to streamline workflow and reduce errors.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior coders or support staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent certification (required).
- Minimum 2+ years of inpatient coding experience, with expertise in ICD-10-CM/PCS and MS-DRG assignment.
- Proficient in using coding software (e.g., 3M, Epic, Cerner) and familiar with EHR systems.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology to support accurate code selection.
- Demonstrated ability to meet high productivity targets (200K SOB) without compromising quality.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with compliance standards (HIPAA, AHIMA, AAPC) and audit processes.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
