Responsibility
- Oversee all engineering operations on chemical tanker vessels, ensuring compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, and ISM Code regulations.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Manage planned and unplanned maintenance, including dry-docking, repairs, and inspections, to minimize downtime and operational disruptions.
- Collaborate with the vesselâs master and shore-based management to optimize fuel consumption, machinery performance, and environmental sustainability.
- Monitor and control the vesselâs technical systems, including propulsion, electrical, and cargo handling equipment, using advanced diagnostic tools.
- Ensure all engineering documentation, including logbooks, maintenance records, and safety reports, is accurately maintained and submitted.
- Respond to emergencies, such as machinery failures or environmental incidents, with swift and effective troubleshooting.
- Participate in audits, surveys, and certification processes to ensure the vessel meets class society and flag state requirements.
Qualifications
- Valid Chief Engineer (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by a recognized maritime authority (e.g., IMO, STCW).
- Minimum of 5 yearsâ experience as a Chief Engineer or Second Engineer on chemical tankers or similar vessels.
- In-depth knowledge of marine engineering systems, including diesel engines, auxiliary machinery, and cargo handling equipment.
- Familiarity with class society rules (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloydâs Register) and international maritime regulations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multicultural teams in a high-pressure environment.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal) for effective communication with global stakeholders.
- Experience with planned maintenance systems (PMS) and computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).
