Responsibility

  • Oversee all engineering operations on chemical tanker vessels, ensuring compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, and ISM Code regulations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage planned and unplanned maintenance, including dry-docking, repairs, and inspections, to minimize downtime and operational disruptions.
  • Collaborate with the vessel’s master and shore-based management to optimize fuel consumption, machinery performance, and environmental sustainability.
  • Monitor and control the vessel’s technical systems, including propulsion, electrical, and cargo handling equipment, using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Ensure all engineering documentation, including logbooks, maintenance records, and safety reports, is accurately maintained and submitted.
  • Respond to emergencies, such as machinery failures or environmental incidents, with swift and effective troubleshooting.
  • Participate in audits, surveys, and certification processes to ensure the vessel meets class society and flag state requirements.

Qualifications

  • Valid Chief Engineer (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by a recognized maritime authority (e.g., IMO, STCW).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Chief Engineer or Second Engineer on chemical tankers or similar vessels.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine engineering systems, including diesel engines, auxiliary machinery, and cargo handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with class society rules (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register) and international maritime regulations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multicultural teams in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal) for effective communication with global stakeholders.
  • Experience with planned maintenance systems (PMS) and computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).
  • Commitment to safety, environmental protection, and operational excellence.
